Required ‘Assistant Professor’ (Three Post) on Contract Basis for Labour Market Research Facility (LMRF), School of Management and Labour Studies, TISS-Mumbai Campus.
The Tata Institute of Social Sciences established in the year 1936 is a Deemed to be University, under Section 3 of the UGC Act 1956, a grant-in-aid Institute under Ministry of Education, Government of India. TISS is a Grade I University as per NAAC assessment 2024.
With four campuses at Mumbai (main campus), Hyderabad, Guwahati and Tuljapur (rural campus), TISS currently offers 05 Undergraduate programmes, 47 Masters’ Degree programmes and 20 Ph.D. programmes in a range of socially relevant inter-disciplinary areas of applied Social Sciences including 32 Bachelor of Vocational degree programmes.

The School of Management and Labour Studies has 5 Centres in
(I) Social and Organisational Leadership;
(ii) Human Resources Management and Labour Relations;
(iii) Labour Studies; (iv) Social Entrepreneurship; and
(v)Labour Market Research Facility (LMRF).
Brief about Labour Market Research Facility
Labour Market Research Facility is an independent research and outreach centre within the School of Management and Labour Studies at TISS. LMRF is a think tank centre that specialises in areas of sustainability, circularity, big data analytics, research consultation, micro and macro labour market analysis, and conducting field-based research and policy studies in connection with labour and business. The LMRF is actively engaged in policy advocacy in areas such as formal and informal work, skill development, technology and labour, internal and external labour market, and livelihoods.

Labour Market Research Facility, School of Management and Labour Studies invites applications for four post of ‘Assistant Professor’ to be filled on contract basis initially for a period of One year and extendable based on candidate performance and requirement by the Institute. The selected candidate should work as per the job descriptions and guidelines provided by the dean of the school. He/She should work on various assignments including teaching, providing guidelines, research, field supervisions of Masters’ Degree and Executive Diploma Programme students.
Remuneration: As per 7th CPC in the Academic Level – 10
Position 1
Educational Qualification: Essential Qualification:
1. PhD in Mathematics/Statistics or related areas.
2. A Master's degree with 55% marks (or an equivalent grade in a point-scale wherever the grading system is followed) in Masters Mathematics/Statistics or allied disciplines from an Indian University, or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university.
Desirable Qualifications:
● Expertise in computation and programming languages (R, Python, Matlab and other open-source languages)
● Expertise in handling data visualisation tools (Tableau, BI Tools and others)
● Expertise in teaching courses on modelling, advanced analytics, and fundamentals of machine learning
● Demonstrated publication and research output in high-impact journals
● Ability to teach across programmes, including Post Graduate programs in Analytics and Undergraduate program in Analytics and Sustainability Studies
● The incumbent should have an affinity to field-based research, fieldwork and sustainability agenda
Position 2
Educational Qualification: Essential Qualification:
1. Ph.D in Environmental Studies /Geography /Geology / Climate Change/ Sustainability Studies and other inter-disciplinary areas
2. A Master's degree with 55% marks (or an equivalent grade in a point-scale wherever the grading system is followed) in Environmental Studies /Geography /Geology / Climate Change/Sustainability Studies and other inter disciplinary areas from an Indian University, or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university.
Desirable Qualifications:
● With demonstrated ability in analytics, visualisation, understanding of Machine
Learning, Data Curation and ESG Framework and handling micro data.
● Expertise on GIS and remote sensing systems
● Ability to teach across programmes, including postgraduate programs in Analytics and
Undergraduate programs in Analytics and Sustainability Studies.
● Demonstrated publication and research output in high-impact journals
● The incumbent should have an affinity to field-based research, fieldwork and sustainability agenda
Position 3
Educational Qualification: Essential Qualification:
PhD in Social Work/ Development Studies/Social Sciences and related areas
A Master's degree with 55% marks (or an equivalent grade on a point scale wherever the grading system is followed) in Masters in Social Work/Rural Development/Social Sciences and related areas from an Indian University or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university.
Desirable Qualifications:
● Demonstrates ability in analytics and visualisation, understanding of machine learning, data curation, sustainability reporting framework, and handling micro data.
● Ability to teach across programmes, including postgraduate programs in Analytics and
Undergraduate programs in Analytics and Sustainability Studies.
● Demonstrated publication and research output in high-impact journals
● Ability to conceptualise and coordinate fieldwork/internship/exposure visits as part of the course.
Besides fulfilling the above qualifications, Eligibility (A or B):
A. The candidate must have cleared the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by the UGC, or a similar test accredited by the UGC, like SLET/SET or who are or have been awarded a Ph.D. Degree in accordance with the University Grants Commission (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of M.Phil./Ph.D. Degree) Regulations, 2009 or 2016 and their amendments from time to time as the case may be exempted from NET/SLET/SET:
Provided, the candidates registered for the Ph.D. programme prior to July 11, 2009, shall be governed by the provisions of the then existing Ordinances/Bye-laws/Regulations of the Institution awarding the degree and such Ph.D. candidates shall be exempted from the requirement of NET / SLET / SET for recruitment and appointment of 'Assistant Professor' subject to the or equivalent positions in Universities/Colleges/Institutions fulfilment of the following conditions:-
a) The Ph.D. degree of the candidate has been awarded in a regular mode;
b) At least two external examiners have evaluated the Ph.D. thesis;
c) An open Ph.D. viva voce of the candidate has been conducted;
d) The Candidate has published at least one research paper from his/her Ph.D. work, in a refereed journal. Preferably indexed in scopus The fulfilment of these conditions is to be certified by the Registrar or the University's Dean (Academic Affairs) concerned.
Note: NET/SLET/SET shall also not be required for such Masters Programmes in disciplines for which NET/SLET/SET is not conducted by the UGC, CSIR or similar test accredited by the UGC, like SLET/SET.

B. The Ph.D. degree has been obtained from a foreign university/institution with a ranking among top 500 in the World University Ranking (at any time) by any one of the following:
i. Quacquarelli Symonds(QS)
ii. the Times Higher Education (THE) or
iii. the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) of the Shanghai Jiao Tong University (Shanghai).

• The Institute reserves the right to relax the qualifications of the candidate based on the work experience and to relax age in the case of persons already holding comparable positions in a University/Research Institution of repute.
